Job description

Plant Director FMCG bottling / canning / bev / beverage (would suit an Ops Director, Site Director or Plant Director from FMCG)

Near Burton-upon-Trent

Bottling, canning, filling or FMCG experience? This is an opportunity to take the lead at a growing manufacturing site with significant investment and ambitious plans for the future.

We’re looking for an experienced Plant Director, Site Director or Operations Director to take full responsibility for a major manufacturing operation near Burton-upon-Trent.

Drinks, bottling, canning and filling experience would be particularly relevant, although we’re also interested in candidates from wider FMCG and high-volume manufacturing environments.

This is a genuine end-to-end leadership role. We need someone who can bring production, engineering, quality and supply chain together, develop the team and drive standards across the whole site.

The role

You’ll have overall responsibility for site performance, people and operational delivery.

There is already a good team in place, but the business needs an experienced leader who can provide direction, challenge constructively and help take the operation to the next level.

Key areas will include:

  • Overall site leadership – taking ownership of manufacturing performance, operational delivery and commercial results.
  • Production and operational excellence – improving productivity, efficiency, quality and consistency through strong processes and continuous improvement.
  • Engineering and CAPEX – overseeing investment, automation, new equipment and commissioning projects.
  • Quality and compliance – maintaining high standards across quality, safety, environmental performance and regulatory requirements.
  • People and leadership – developing the site leadership team, coaching managers and building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Supply chain – ensuring the different functions work together effectively to meet demand and deliver business objectives.
  • Future growth – helping shape the site's development, capacity and manufacturing capability as the business continues to invest.
What are we looking for?

You’ll probably be an established Plant Director, Site Director or Operations Director, with the breadth of experience to lead a complete manufacturing operation (we are also open to someone stepping up into the role)

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Experience in bottling, canning, filling, drinks manufacturing or FMCG. Food or other relevant high-volume manufacturing backgrounds will also be considered.
  • Full end-to-end operational responsibility, covering more than production alone.
  • A strong understanding of engineering, quality, supply chain and lean manufacturing.
  • The leadership presence to set expectations, engage the workforce and develop a capable management team.
  • Experience of CAPEX, automation, commissioning and embedding new equipment or processes.
  • Good commercial awareness and an understanding of how site performance impacts the wider business.
  • A stable career history and the ambition to make a long-term contribution.

You don’t need to have done everything in exactly the same environment. Relevant manufacturing experience, sound operational judgement and the ability to lead people effectively are what matter.

The opportunity

The site has significant investment behind it, with automation projects underway and plans to develop further manufacturing capacity over time.

It’s a busy environment with plenty to get your teeth into. You’ll have the scope to influence how the site operates, develop the team, embed improvements and help deliver the next phase of growth.

Package and location
  • Salary: £125,000–£135,000 - TBC this is an approx. guide only at this stage.
  • Pension: 8% employer contribution
  • Company car: Fully expensed.
  • Private medical
  • Relocation assistance: Up to £20,000 may be available.

Location: Near Burton-upon-Trent. The business is keen to attract candidates who can commute to the site, with the search covering the wider Derby, Nottingham, Buxton, Mansfield, Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent areas.

This is a five-day, site-based role, so being able to get to site consistently is important. Relocation may be considered for the right person.
