Job summary

Harlow Council is seeking a motivated Planning Officer to join our Development Management team during a period of significant regeneration. You will manage a varied caseload of planning applications, gain experience in planning enforcement and appeals, and work with councillors, residents, developers and professional agents.

This role suits an early‑career planner with a relevant degree and eligibility for RTPI membership.

Qualifications

• Degree in town planning or related field.
• Eligibility for membership of the RTPI.
• Basic understanding of development management procedures.
• Ability to organise workload and meet deadlines.
• Good written and verbal communication with colleagues, councillors and the public.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of planning applications, from householder to commercial proposals.
• Carry out site visits, analyse planning issues and prepare committee reports.
• Engage with councillors, residents, developers and professional agents.
• Contribute to planning enforcement, appeals and wider development management practice.
