Job description

OLD OAK AND PARK ROYAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (OPDC)

Planning Committee Member

Appointment to the Planning Committee of the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC).

The Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) is the Mayor of London’s statutory regeneration agency and local planning authority. Our task is to ensure the £1.7bn investment in HS2’s Old Oak Common Station catalyses a successful, sustainable and substantial regenerated district in our part of west London and is a project on a scale comparable to the largest regeneration projects of recent decades.

Covering 650 hectares, including the Park Royal industrial estate, the Grand Union Canal and extensive development sites, Old Oak and Park Royal has the potential to deliver over 25,000 homes and tens of thousands of jobs, generating an estimated £7.5bn to the London and UK economy.

We are looking for a new independent member of our Planning Committee to help us deliver this ambition; someone who shares our passion to create a great new urban district with thousands of new homes, jobs and amenities for local communities and newcomers alike.

You will be joining at an exciting time for OPDC, with our delivery team currently in pre-application discussions for the Old Oak masterplan that includes 9,000 homes, 11,000 jobs and three million square feet of commercial space.

With nearly 6,000 homes already built or under construction, and a pipeline of over 6,000 more, our planning committee will play a key role in ensuring that these plans, and all new developments contribute to our wider vision and provide the highest quality of design, sustainability and inclusivity. You will join other independents and local borough representatives both to determine planning applications, support our forthcoming Local Plan review and contribute to new planning policies and supplementary guidance.

This is a real opportunity for individuals who wish to improve the lives of Londoners, supporting the capital’s diversity, and play a significant part in the UK’s economic growth prospects.

The time commitment will include an initial training session, monthly Planning Committee meetings in person, monthly online briefing meetings and site visits which are likely to be quarterly.

With a strong commitment to West London and its communities, you must be able to operate in a high profile, publicly accountable environment, ideally with relevant planning, development, legal or wider regeneration experience.

OPDC is firmly committed to reflecting and championing the rich diversity of the communities with which we work, and we welcome applications that reflect this. We welcome applications from women and those people of colour as they are currently underrepresented on our Planning Committee.
