An established industry player is seeking Audit & Risk Assurance Committee Members to support the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This role is crucial for advising on risk management and internal controls, shaping government priorities. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) is responsible for delivering energy supply security, ensuring well-functioning energy markets, promoting energy efficiency, and leading in green industries to achieve net zero. DESNZ leads the Prime Minister's Clean Energy Superpower Mission, focusing on two pillars: i) Clean Power by 2030, and ii) accelerating to net zero.
The Departmental Board and Audit & Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC) support DESNZ's strategic objectives. The Board, chaired by the Secretary of State, sets the department’s vision, while non-executive members advise on strategy and priorities.
The ARAC ensures DESNZ's financial soundness and effective resource use, overseeing risk management and governance frameworks.
Members advise the Permanent Secretary and the Board on risk management and internal controls, helping shape a department central to government priorities.
This committee supports the ICS Oversight Board and manages shared corporate services for multiple departments and agencies, ensuring governance, risk management, and financial integrity.
The Chair ensures ICS’s financial and operational efficiency aligns with strategic objectives.
Candidates should have extensive experience in strategic leadership, risk, performance, and financial management, with strong analytical and communication skills. Experience in large, complex organizations across public, private, or voluntary sectors is essential.
For DESNZ ARAC roles, expertise in energy, net zero, or regulated industries is preferred. For the ICS Chair, understanding shared services and public sector challenges is vital, with experience in energy or climate sectors desirable.
