Planner - Civil Engineering & Groundworks

Location: Birmingham / Nationwide Projects

Salary: Competitive Day Rate - Dependent on Experience

Bennett and Game Recruitment are currently working with a well-established and growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor who are seeking an experienced Planner to join their team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, managing and monitoring project programmes across a range of major groundworks, infrastructure and civil engineering projects throughout the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Construction Planner or Civil Engineering Planner with strong knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts, alongside experience using Primavera P6 and Asta Powerproject. The position will involve working closely with project management, engineering, commercial and pre-construction teams to ensure projects are effectively planned, monitored and delivered to programme.

Planner Position Overview

• Develop, maintain and manage detailed construction programmes using Primavera P6 and Asta Powerproject.
• Produce contract-compliant project programmes in accordance with NEC and JCT requirements.
• Work alongside pre-construction teams to prepare tender programmes, construction sequencing and methodology documents.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Site Engineers and Commercial Managers to ensure effective project planning and reporting.
• Monitor construction progress against baseline programmes, identifying potential delays and programme risks.
• Prepare detailed progress reports, delay analysis and mitigation strategies.
• Review project performance and recommend programme adjustments where necessary.
• Support tender submissions, bid preparation and pre-construction planning activities.
• Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers and project stakeholders to coordinate programme requirements.
• Ensure planning documentation is accurate, maintained and compliant with contractual obligations.

Planner Position Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Planner, Construction Planner or Senior Planner within the civil engineering, groundworks or infrastructure sectors.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, methodologies and project programming.
• Experience working under NEC and JCT forms of contract.
• Proficiency in Primavera P6 and Asta Powerproject.
• Experience developing tender programmes and managing live construction programmes.
• Good understanding of delay analysis, programme monitoring and mitigation strategies.
• Ability to work closely with site teams, commercial departments and senior management.
• Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple project requirements.
• Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline would be advantageous.
• Willingness to travel to various project locations throughout the UK.
