Plain Film Radiographer

Our B6 Plain Film Radiographer will be in a supervisory role, coordinating X-ray workload and team members. They will support the X-Ray Lead Radiographer through delegated roles and tasks. They will carry out X-ray examinations within the agreed scope of practice for the role, striving to produce images that are of exemplary diagnostic quality and support team members to achieve the same.

They will work as part of the X-ray and wider Radiology team, supporting Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) in delivering a high-quality, safe, and patient-focused service.

They will represent the Plain Film and wider Radiology team and TSDFT in a professional and appropriate manner and contribute to safe working practices, ensuring full compliance with all local and national guidance and regulatory requirements.

Main duties of the job
  1. Provide supervisory support to the X-ray team, coordinating daily workload in the main X-ray department.
  2. Support the XR Superintendent Radiographer.
  3. Provide high-quality diagnostic X-ray imaging within the required scope of practice at TSDFT. The scope may extend to supporting more complex procedures with appropriate training.
  4. Work within all mandated regulatory guidelines and comply with all Trust and Departmental policies, protocols, and guidelines, ensuring high-quality, safe working practices.
  5. Provide the highest quality of care, treating all patients equally.
  6. Be responsible for the safe and efficient use of expensive and complex technical equipment.
  7. Manage workload in the scan room/area.
  8. Support patient pathways for all patient types, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery.
  9. Supervise and advise trainees and students.
  10. Participate in the 24/7 service provision, which may involve working without on-site supervision.
  11. Maintain professional registration.
About us

The X-ray team is led by a Superintendent Radiographer, supported by two Band 6 Radiographers (including this role), and a team of 26 X-ray Radiographers.

  • BSc Radiography or DCR(R) (Diploma of the College of Radiographers in Radiodiagnosis) with CPD/experience
  • Entitled as Operator under IR(ME)R (Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations)
  • Perform all administrative tasks, including data entry into Radiology Information System (CRIS)
  • Position & manoeuvre patients and equipment daily, including ambulant, wheelchair-bound, or on a stretcher/bed; use of a hoist may be necessary
  • Ability to prioritise workload, especially when working single-handed out of hours, with increased stress levels
