The University of Leicester is seeking a Research Associate with a process engineering background to lead the scale-up of oil–water separation technology for end-of-life electric vehicle batteries within the RECLAIM project. You will translate laboratory findings into engineering specifications and drive a pilot unit toward industrial demonstration, working with researchers and industrial partners.

• PhD or equivalent in chemical/ process/mechanical engineering or related field.
• Experience translating lab or batch processes into pilot-scale or continuous operation.
• Knowledge of solid-liquid or liquid-liquid separation, flotation, emulsions, particle separation or hydrometallurgy.
• Experience in design, procurement, construction, commissioning or validation of pilot equipment.
• Strong analytical and communication skills for collaboration with stakeholders.

Responsabilidades

• Lead scale-up of oil-water separation technology to a 100 kg/h pilot unit.
• Design, develop and optimise processes for mixed battery black mass (NMC and LFP).
• Establish mass and energy balances, operating windows and scale-up criteria.
• Support procurement, construction, commissioning and validation of the pilot unit.
• Collaborate with partners and contribute to reporting, publications and funding proposals.
• Travel to partner sites and conduct hands-on pilot trials.
