Job description

Job Title: Rehabilitation Practitioner - Musculoskeletal Out-patients

Band: 4

Hours of Work (per week): 37.5 hours

Service Centre / Directorate: Therapies

Base: St George's Hospital (may be required to work at any of the Trust's sites)

Accountable to: Operational Manager/Service Manager

Reports to: An assigned Senior Band 6 or Band 7 physiotherapist as line manager for supervision

Responsible for: The rehabilitation practitioner will work under guidance of qualified physiotherapists to undertake assessment and management of selected patients within St George's Healthcare NHS Trust and carry out duties supporting the smooth functioning of the service.

Key working relationships

Patients, supervising physiotherapist, clinical team leads, administrative staff, referring clinicians, families / carers, GP's, community services, statutory and voluntary agencies, and MDT colleagues.

Main duties of the job
  • Assist the physiotherapists and support the musculoskeletal outpatient physiotherapy service by carrying out and progressing treatment plans developed by therapists within an agreed framework.
  • Carry out outpatient assessment and treatments in the therapies department which may be across any of the sites.
  • Work autonomously without direct supervision to support patients in their rehabilitation plans using advanced communication and therapeutic handling skills.
  • Modify specific treatment programmes by reassessing and progressing as appropriate where agreed with responsible therapist.
  • Autonomously identify need to re-evaluate, progress and terminate treatment intervention.
  • Communicate effectively with therapists and patients about patient's condition.
  • Lead the delivery of therapist prescribed group exercise and education programmes.
  • Record and maintain associated patient records using knowledge and skills gained through experience and/or relevant qualifications.
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff to carry out physical activity.
  • Autonomously order identified simple aids and adaptations as well as support the ordering of therapy prescribed equipment.
  • Lead on therapy based data collection and reporting.
  • Assist in maintaining services and contribute to the development of services.
  • Assist in running MSK classes.
