Job summary

Physio Technician - Band 4 - 30 Hours per Week

We are looking for a Band 4 Physio Technician, but would be happy to support a development programme for an enthusiastic and experienced Band 3 Enablement Worker to gain specialist skills within Learning disabilities.

We have a small Physio Team working within the community in North Staffordshire and require someone with experience of working with clients with a range of complex health needs.

The role is very varied and the team are looking to expand the therapy offer to our local population. We are looking for someone prepared to work outside of the box, be creative and innovative, be able to travel across the locality, and work in a variety of settings.

Opportunities for further training would be available and eventually we would like to explore the Physio Therapy apprenticeship, so a willingness to get involved in additional academic study is essential.

Please see the attached job descriptions, as dependant on candidate's experience their role may commence at Band 3 and be increased to band 4 in 12 to 18 months dependant on achieving competency framework.

Main duties of the job

North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust aims to provide accessible, non-stigmatising local services that contribute to the assessment, intervention, treatment, rehabilitation and enablement of people with learning disabilities, which promotes the prevention, early detection and treatment of health related issues for adults with learning disabilities in the community. The service is wholly committed to the use of Person Centred Planning approaches and affording adults with learning disabilities opportunities to maximize full citizenship, choice and control. The Physiotherapy Technician will work both independently and as part of the Community Learning Disability Team to provide significantly to the Physiotherapy aspect of the team.

The Physiotherapy Technician will be experienced in delivering Physiotherapy interventions at a non-registered level and will provide support, advice and instruction to junior team members including the CLDT Enablement Workers.

The Physiotherapy Technician will support the CLDT Manager and Registered Physiotherapists in promoting, enhancing and maintaining the health and wellbeing of adults with learning disabilities.

Be a member of the Community Learning Disability Health Team, demonstrating the ability to make decisions and influence the development of services, and work with clients in a variety of health / community settings.

Support the CLDT Manager in the development of an evolving learning disability service.

Work with other services aiming to reduce health inequalities and improve access to universal services.

Support access to mainstream health services for adults with learning disabilities.

Provide timely intervention aimed at promoting and maintaining the health of adults with a learning disability. This will be achieved through individual and group therapy and where necessary the implementation of therapeutic interventions.

To work with colleagues of all disciplines in the provision of a multidisciplinary health and social care service.

Support the MDT to undertake assessments for people with learning disabilities who may have complex physical, psychological, behavioural or mental health needs and to develop and deliver person centred, individualised treatment plans.

To work to national Physiotherapy standards, guidelines and strategies including those affecting the Allied Health professions services as agreed within the service.

In conjunction with the CLDT Manager and Registered Physiotherapists, assess, problem solve, review and discharge patients following agreed assessment criteria, protocols and clinical care pathways.

In conjunction with the CLDT Manager and Registered Physiotherapists liaise with and offering advice / information to other members of the multi-disciplinary team, other professionals, clients and their families/carers to facilitate safe and effective care.

To follow research and evidence based practice as they are introduced to the service including National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines to achieve therapeutic goals.

To be clinically responsible for all aspects of the post holders own practice and develop and maintain the skills required to practice at this level of physiotherapy.

To maintain a high standard of clinical practice including the ability to reflect and feedback to the CLDT Manager, physiotherapist or other team members highlighting any noticeable or significant changes and monitor treatments as requested.

To actively support adults with learning disabilities in their use of local health services. Identify any inadequacies and take appropriate action to enhance the quality of intervention and access available.

Establish and sustain links with primary care settings and non-statutory agencies facilitating access to universal services for adults with learning disabilities.

To motivate others through effective communication and support the Physiotherapist to gain co-operation for treatment where there may be significant barriers to understanding.
