LaraBench is seeking a PHP / Laravel Developer in Benfleet, Essex. The role is hybrid, with two days in the office and three days from home, and offers up to £45,000 plus pension and free on-site parking.

You will join a small, established in-house dev team, work on real customer journeys, and help modernise the stack with AI tools while maintaining secure code practices.

PHP / Laravel Developer, Benfleet, Essex (Hybrid), up to £45,000

KEY POINTS

ABOUT THE CLIENT

An established, growing online business based in Essex, running its own customer facing web platform.

Everything is built and run in house. The platform handles real customer transactions every day, and the business has grown year on year, with more growth planned into next year.

The dev team is small, settled and long standing. It works closely with a technical director who is hands on and well connected to the code.

THE ROLE, PHP / LARAVEL DEVELOPER

This hire adds capacity to a team that is running at its limit as the business grows. You will pick up real development work from day one across the platform that runs the core customer journeys.

Laravel is at the core of the stack, with JavaScript, Bootstrap and Tailwind on the front end and MySQL underneath. The platform handles customer and payment data, so writing secure code is a core part of the job. Awareness of the OWASP Top 10 matters here.

The team is also going through a real shift in how it uses AI. Claude Code is the go to tool, and the business wants developers who will help shape how AI is built into its workflows and systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, build and maintain full stack web applications, predominantly in Laravel
• Build and optimise RESTful APIs between the front end and back end services
• Build responsive user interfaces with Bootstrap, Tailwind and modern JavaScript
• Write clean, secure, well tested code
• Work with the wider business to turn requirements into technical solutions
• Help develop AI driven workflow improvements across the team

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

• Strong commercial PHP and Laravel
• JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3, with Bootstrap and/or Tailwind
• RESTful API design, building and consuming
• MySQL
• Linux environments and the command line
• Git and GitHub
• A solid understanding of secure coding practices

DESIRABLE, NOT ESSENTIAL

• ClaudeCode or similar AI coding tools in a working environment
• Experience with regulated or transactional web platforms
• Automated testing, such as PHPUnit
• Experience modernising or extending established codebases
