Job summary

Thorpe Primary Academy is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant (Core) to support learning across KS1 and KS2, with a strong focus on phonics. The role involves delivering targeted interventions, assisting class teachers, and contributing to pupil progress and wellbeing.

The post requires a Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent, GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above, and experience supporting pupils with SEND and EAL. 32.5 hours, term-time plus training weeks.

Qualifications

• Has Teaching Assistant or other relevant qualification.
• Demonstrates strong phonics knowledge, ideally with training in systematic synthetic phonics programmes (Read Write Inc, or similar)
• Has secure literacy and numeracy skills, including GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
• Has training and experience delivering interventions in KS1/KS2, with demonstrable evidence of impact on pupil progress
• Has experience supporting pupils with SEND and EAL, understanding barriers to learning and how to scaffold learning effectively
• Understands child development across the primary age range and how to support pupils at different stages of their learning journey
• Communicates confidently and effectively with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
• Works collaboratively as part of a team and uses initiative to respond flexibly to pupils' needs
• Is well organised, reflective, and committed to ongoing professional development
• Shares the values and ethos of a high-performing, child-centred school

Responsibilities

• Delivering targeted phonics interventions to support pupils in developing strong reading and spelling skills
• Supporting pupils across KS1 and KS2 to ensure they make good progress from their starting points, including pupils with SEND and EAL
• Working closely with class teachers to deliver high-quality learning experiences, including small group work and one-to-one support
• Contributing to pupil assessment and progress tracking, using your specialist skills and experience to help identify barriers to learning
• Actively engaging with the school's provision map, supporting interventions and contributing to the APDR (Assess, Plan, Do, Review) cycle
• Supporting pupils' wellbeing and dignity, including delivering intimate care where required
• Facilitating smooth transitions between year groups and key stages, ensuring continuity of support
• Building effective relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and carers to ensure consistent and high-quality support
• Contributing to a positive learning environment where all pupils feel valued and supported to achieve their best
