Job summary

Milk Education is seeking an Early Reading Intervention Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Gateshead, supporting Read Write Inc. sessions and helping Year 1 and Year 2 pupils with phonics.

You will deliver targeted catch-up sessions, track progress and provide feedback to teachers while creating a nurturing environment. Term-time, with flexible hours and full/part-time options, salary £540–£580 per week.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering or supporting Read Write Inc. phonics.
  • Solid understanding of early reading development and phonics.
  • Experience with KS1 pupils in small groups or one-to-one.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive, patient, and supportive approach to learning.
  • Enhanced DBS Update Service (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted catch-up sessions using the Read Write Inc. Phonics programme.
  • Support Year 1 pupils at risk of not meeting the expected standard in the Phonics Screening Check.
  • Work with Year 2 pupils who are required to resit the phonics assessment.
  • Track and record pupil progress, providing regular feedback to class teachers and the phonics lead.
  • Create a positive, nurturing environment where every child feels motivated to succeed.
