Job summary

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a motivated individual to join our phlebotomy team. Training will be provided; prior phlebotomy experience is not required, but willingness to learn and provide patient-friendly service is essential.

You will work across ward areas, clinics and outpatient departments, adhering to PPE guidelines and maintaining high standards of accuracy and confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at A-C grades or equivalent.
  • Experience in Phlebotomy/Venepuncture within an acute trust is desirable, training provided.
  • Demonstrates genuine interest in frontline public healthcare services.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver full phlebotomy service across ward areas, clinics and outpatients.
  • Follow PPE guidance and trust policies at all times.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, carers and colleagues.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional standards under pressure.

Job description

Phlebotomy is the skill of obtaining a blood sample by using varying techniques and equipment, whilst following trust guidance and policy. The teams provide a warm and welcoming supportive learning environment and share a wealth of experience and knowledge. Previous experience working as a Phlebotomist is not required as full supervised training will be provided.

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen for motivated and enthusiastic people to join our team at NUH providing Phlebotomy services to all ward areas, clinics and outpatients departments on both of our campuses, including the Treatment centre. Excellent communication skills along with a pleasant , friendly and understanding disposition are essential for this role and previous experience of working with the general public would be an advantage. This role will require the post holder to wear personal, protective, equipment (PPE) including masks, aprons and gloves as per trust guidance. You must be able to work in a fast paced, high demand environment which sees a high turn over of patients daily.

  • Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's "We are here for you" behavioural standards, oGCSE grades A-C or equivalent in English and Maths., oPrevious Phlebotomy /Venepuncture Experience within an acute trust., You will have a genuine interest in a career working in frontline services for people
  • Knowledge of the Phlebotomy role.
  • Able to follow a full venepuncture- training programme
  • Good communication and telephone skills
  • Understanding and respect of confidentiality in the workplace., Understands and practices the principles of confidentiality
  • Able to minimise interpersonal conflict
  • Computer literate (able to use MS Outlook, MS word, enter data onto excel spread sheets).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work and communicate in a pro‑active, responsive and professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships., Able to use judgement in straightforward situations
  • Awareness of limitations and when to seek advice to solve problem

  • Must be able to deliver the full phlebotomy service within NUH., Flexibility and adaptability to ensure workloads are achieved and service requirements are met at all times.
