Job summary

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a phlebotomist to perform venepuncture for patients of all ages, ensuring correct identification and appropriate investigations. Qualifications

• Competent in venipuncture for patients of all ages.
• Ability to correctly identify patients and confirm requested investigations.

Responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture for patients of all ages within competency and practice protocols.
• Label, process and prepare specimens for transportation to the laboratory.
• Maintain accurate electronic patient records using the clinical system.
• Monitor and maintain adequate stock levels of phlebotomy equipment.
• Ensure clinical rooms are clean, safe, well-stocked, and prepared for use.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies, health and safety legislation, and SOPs.
• Provide reassurance and support to patients, including those who may be anxious about blood tests.
• Recognise and respond to patients who become unwell during or after venepuncture.
• Work with the wider practice team to support efficient patient care.
• Participate in mandatory training, appraisal, and continuing professional development.
