Job summary

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a phlebotomy professional to deliver venepuncture and capillary blood sampling across hospital wards, clinics, GP surgeries, community locations and patients’ homes.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, ensure safe, dignified care, obtain informed consent, label samples accurately and support service delivery across multiple sites including High Wycombe, Amersham and Aylesbury.

Qualifications

• Qualified phlebotomy staff with venepuncture experience.
• Ability to collect blood samples accurately and label specimens correctly.
• Good communication with patients, carers and colleagues in a caring, professional manner.
• Commitment to infection control and safe, high‑quality care.

Responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture and capillary blood sampling across hospital wards, clinics, GP surgeries, community sites and patients’ homes.
• Greet patients and obtain informed consent prior to procedures.
• Select tubes, draw order and needle size; ensure samples are labelled and handled correctly.
• Provide clear pre-test instructions to patients and support anxious or needle‑phobic individuals.
• Recognise complications and escalate to the Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• Maintain ward/outpatient phlebotomy lists and audit records.
• Support training and induction of new phlebotomy staff.
• Maintain stocks and adhere to infection control and uniform policies.
