Job summary

Invicta Health is seeking a part-time venepuncture support role (20 hours/week) to collect blood samples across three Canterbury-area surgery sites. You will follow clinical guidelines, confirm patient consent, label specimens, and ensure timely dispatch to laboratories.

The post requires good general education, phlebotomy qualification, and strong communication, organisational and time-management skills. Flexible working and team collaboration are valued.

Responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture to obtain blood samples as per direct referral from GP, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Pharmacist or qualified clinicians.
• Collect samples across three surgery sites: Martello Health Centre, Church Lane Surgery and Orchard House Surgery.
• Ensure patient comfort and consent; label and identify samples accurately.
• Record collection in patient records and dispatch samples to laboratories promptly.
• Report any anomalies or clinical concerns to senior staff and inform GP/nurse as required.
• Adhere to infection control, storage requirements and policy procedures; maintain fridge temps.
• Maintain clean, uncluttered clinical areas and assist administrative team as needed.

Job description

This is a part time role, of 20 hours per week, working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Pharmacist, Practice Nurse & qualified clinicians. This role will be worked across 3 surgery sites:Martello Health Centre, Church Lane Surgery and Orchard House Surgery. Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their consent to the collection of a blood sample Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion. Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team Report any clinical or environmental issues of concern and take action to rectify these where appropriate Ensure a working knowledge and compliance with Practice Policies and Procedures Check and record fridge temperatures to maintain the cold chain Check and re-stock GP rooms regularly Understand the importance and adhere to infection control issues Keep clinical areas clean and free from clutter.
