We are looking for a practice-based Phlebotomist to join our Nursing team for 15 hours per week, spread across 3-5 days.

Main duties of the job

Phlebotomists play a key role in patient care by collecting blood samples for testing, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and maintaining accurate records. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, enjoys working with people, and is comfortable in a clinical setting.

Job description

The role involves providing a high-quality, safe, and efficient phlebotomy service by collecting blood samples from patients professionally, timely, and compassionately. It supports diagnostic and treatment decisions across various clinical services.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Duties: Perform venepuncture safely following local protocols, identify patients correctly, label and handle samples accurately, respond to patient reactions, and maintain hygienic work areas.
• Patient Interaction: Treat patients with dignity and respect, provide reassurance, and maintain confidentiality.
• Record Keeping and Administration: Record procedures and patient information accurately on SystmOne.
• Teamwork and Communication: Collaborate with staff, communicate effectively, and participate in team meetings and service improvements.
• Health and Safety: Follow infection control policies, report incidents, and use PPE appropriately.
• Other Duties: Participate in training, support junior staff, and demonstrate procedures.

Person Specification

Experience

• Experience in healthcare settings like hospitals or GP practices.
• Experience dealing with patients aged 16+.
• Experience using SystmOne and supporting infection control.

Qualifications

• Recognised phlebotomy training certificate.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development.
• First aid or basic life support certification.
• Additional healthcare qualifications are a plus.
