Job summary

University of East Anglia invites applications for an ARIES-funded PhD studentship exploring how zebrafish react to perceived and actual temperature changes and how these responses influence future generations. The project combines behavioural assays, transcriptomics and multigenerational crosses to assess germline plasticity under heat stress.

You will gain practical experience across animal husbandry, experimental design and bioinformatics, supported by ARIES training and a research network.

Qualifications

  • Background in genetics, evolutionary biology, molecular biology or ecology is essential.
  • Experience with model organisms, molecular techniques and quantitative analysis is desirable.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics or programming is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Test how zebrafish respond to perceived and actual temperature changes.
  • Train fish and measure phenotypic data including behavioural changes and offspring effects.
  • Collect samples for transcriptome sequencing and perform bioinformatic analyses.
