Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an assistant to join our pharmacy procurement team responsible for purchasing medicines for the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

A good general understanding of IT systems is essential, as most of our ordering systems are electronic. You will need to update Excel spreadsheets and interact competently with other Microsoft applications. Your responsibilities will include the day-to-day ordering of medicines, liaising with wholesalers and suppliers to ensure medicines are available for clinical teams, processing invoices, and chasing out-of-stock medicines.

Our vision is to be a first-class provider of sustainable healthcare services, delivering the best possible care for our patients and being a great place to work. Our 'Proud to CARE' philosophy supports this vision, emphasizing:

  • COMPASSION - treating everyone with kindness, welcoming diversity, and challenging inappropriate behaviors.
  • AMBITION - striving to be the best, reaching high standards, and providing exceptional care.
  • RESPECT - valuing everyone, listening, learning, and acting on their experiences.
  • ENCOURAGEMENT - supporting education, development, and involving everyone in our future.

The role includes:

  1. Placing routine and ad-hoc pharmacy orders as per routine.
  2. Processing invoices within agreed timescales and investigating deviations from predicted prices.
  3. Following up on overdue orders by liaising with manufacturers and suppliers.
  4. Maintaining records of medicine shortages.
  5. Participating in stock-taking activities.
  6. Dealing with enquiries from wards and departments.
  7. Advising pharmacy staff on procurement and availability matters.
  8. Performing general clerical duties such as post, filing, answering calls, and document management.

We offer flexible working arrangements and support COVID-19 vaccination for staff. Applications from those requiring sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome, with full details needed on the application form. The role may involve working at different locations within the health and social care community in Derbyshire in the future.

The procurement team manages over £20 million worth of medicines annually. We seek a team player who is hardworking, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented to support our services.
