Job summary

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking Pharmacy Assistants for our Burnley and Blackburn sites. The role covers dispensary, stock distribution and aseptic services, with training provided toward an NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services.

You will gain hands-on experience across wards, input orders, maintain stock accuracy, and support a busy hospital pharmacy team on a rotating basis, with a focus on accuracy and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Basic IT skills and strong communication are essential.
• Willingness to learn via distance learning NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services.
• Ability to work accurately in a busy hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate stock levels of medicines and consumables.
• Pick and pack medicines for wards with heavy lifting where required.
• Visit wards to replenish stock and input orders into computer systems.
• Storage of stock in line with stock rotation.
• Handle reception tasks and assist public and clinical staff with prescriptions.
• Dispense a wide range of medicines with support from a dispensing robot.
• Process and dispose of medicinal waste.
• Assist in production in clean rooms for IV medicines and chemotherapy; monitor environment.
