The pharmacist clinical adviser role is within the clinical directorate, which aims to strengthen clinical leadership across NICE and ensure comprehensive clinical oversight and support for all NICE activities. The directorate also enhances NICE's external credibility and stakeholder engagement.
The core task of the directorate is to develop and deliver an organisation-wide topic selection and prioritisation process that identifies initiatives with the greatest impact on people and the health and care system. It also ensures that NICE's clinical requirements are proactively anticipated and met in response to evolving needs.
We are a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team of health and care professionals and highly skilled technical staff.

It involves leading programmes and projects, providing technical, clinical, and medicines advice, and sharing system intelligence to support evidence-based practice.
The pharmacist clinical adviser collaborates with the NICE Medicines and Prescribing Associate community of practice, influencing medicines optimisation and prescribing strategies within the NHS.
The medicines optimisation team, part of the clinical directorate, offers expert advice to ensure safe, effective, and innovative use of medicines, aiming for optimal patient and public outcomes and supporting the NHS workforce.
Our activities include contributing to guidance development, quality assurance, and creating implementation tools for prescribers, commissioners, and frontline professionals. We also gather medicines intelligence and provide operational and project management support for the team's products and services, adhering to NICE policies.
