Job summary

Cheshire College South and West is seeking an inspirational Personal Development Tutor to support adult learners at Crewe Campus.

The role focuses on helping learners make progress academically and personally, with regular reviews against targets and access to the Adult Personal Development platform for online tutorials on skills development, employability, British Values, equality and diversity, and PREVENT.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 qualification required.
  • GCSEs C (4/5) in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Experience as a personal tutor/advisor/mentor.
  • Experience working with adults and understanding barriers to work or study.
  • Enhanced DBS check required.

Responsibilities

  • Support adult learners with academic and personal progress and review against targets.
  • Help learners access the Adult Personal Development platform and online tutorials.
  • Deliver targeted one-to-one meetings for adult learners.
  • Meet with managers to discuss pastoral issues and refer learners to specialist services if needed.
  • Provide initial information, advice and guidance on career aims through reviews.
  • Assist in delivering group tutorials for 16-18 learners on personal development themes.

Job description

Salary: £29,838 to £32,579 pro rata per annum

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week, part year working (38weeks) (Includes some evenings)

Location: Crewe Campus

A new opportunity has arisen for an inspirational person to join our College in the role of Personal Development Tutor, to provide support for adult learners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support adult learners with academic/personal progress and review against targets on an individual basis in line with the College frequency standard.Insisting on high ambitions for all learners;
  • Support adult learners in accessing the shared Adult Personal Development platform so that learners can access online tutorials on key personal development activities and themes including Skills development, Employability, British Values, Equality and Diversity and the PREVENT agenda;
  • Deliver targeted one-to-one meetings for adult learners;
  • Meet with relevant managers and staff to discuss pastoral issues affecting any adult learners giving concern and, where necessary, to refer learners to more specialist services;
  • Deliver initial information, advice and guidance on career aims through an individual review; and
  • Assist in the delivery of group tutorial sessions and activities for 16- 18 learners that will cover key personal development themes including Resilience, Employability, British Values, Equality and Diversity and the PREVENT agenda, if required.
Key Person Specification Requirements:
  • Level 4 qualification;
  • GCSEs C (4/5) in English and Maths (or equivalent);
  • Excellent personal tutor, advisor or mentor skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of tutorial themes;
  • Experience of working with adults and an understanding of the barriers they may face in finding work or further study;
  • Experience in supporting people with initial mental health concerns;
  • Good working knowledge of target setting and review methods;
  • Ability to work with empathy and sensitivity; and
  • Enhanced DBS check.
