Job summary

Hugh Baird College Campuses, Liverpool, is seeking caring Personal Care Assistants to support students with SEND across our campuses. This term-time only role offers part-time and full-time opportunities within Learner Support, with a pro rata salary of £25,255.48 Full-Time Equivalent.

You will provide personal care, mobility and wellbeing support, work with teaching staff, maintain records and help learners access curriculum in a safe, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting young people with SEND or similar needs.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Empathy, patience and a caring approach.
• Basic IT skills including Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint.
• First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care, mobility and wellbeing support to learners in line with individual support plans.
• Support students during lessons, breaks, lunch periods, arrivals and departures, promoting independence and confidence.
• Assist learners with accessing College facilities, moving safely around campus and participating in educational visits.
• Support students with medical and care needs, including supervising medication and administering emergency medication following appropriate training.
• Work closely with lecturers and support staff to help learners achieve their EHCP and individual learning targets.
• Encourage participation, engagement and positive social interactions while supporting emotional wellbeing.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to student reviews, support plans and progress monitoring.

About the Role

We are seeking caring, dedicated and motivated Personal Care Assistants to support students with a range of learning difficulties, disabilities, medical needs and additional support requirements across our College campuses.

Working as part of our Learner Support team, you will play a vital role in helping students access their chosen curriculum, develop independence and participate fully in College life. The role involves providing personal care, mobility support, wellbeing support and assistance both in and outside of the classroom environment.

You will work closely with teaching staff, Learning Support Assistants and wider support teams to ensure students receive the highest standards of care while progressing academically and socially during their time at College.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with SEND and is committed to helping learners achieve their full potential in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by learners with SEND and the importance of inclusive support practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
• Empathy, patience and a caring approach, with the ability to support learners sensitively and professionally.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to maintain clear and accurate records.
• Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake First Aid training and other relevant development opportunities.
