Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living is seeking a empathetic Personal Assistant to support Mary, a 92-year-old with dementia, in her Crookston home. The role focuses on personal care, daily tasks, and providing companionship to enhance wellbeing.
Typical duties include helping Mary get up, wash, dress, manage medications, and participate in activities; training provided. A PVG check and references are requested, with part-time hours across Wednesdays and Sundays.
Make a Positive Difference in Mary's Day
Mary is a gentle and very sweet 92-year-old lady who enjoys company and interacting with people. Her entire life has been focused on caring for her large family and working to support them. She enjoys attending a day centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays and gets on well with all the staff and other club members. She also enjoys regular FaceTime calls with her sons and oldest granddaughter in America.
In recent years, Mary has experienced some changes in her health, including dementia, and now requires support in several areas of her life.
A typical day with Mary might include:
Mary likes to do her own washing and ironing, as well as some light housework. She often enjoys tidying drawers and cupboards, which gives her a sense of satisfaction. Mary is keen to do as much as she can for herself but may need help with some aspects of tasks.
Due to severe arthritis and breathlessness, Mary finds it difficult to walk long distances. This can be frustrating for her, but she benefits from gentle encouragement to balance activity with periods of rest.
As Mary's Personal Assistant, you would endeavour to build a friendly and trusting relationship with her, helping her feel comfortable asking for support when required.
Previous experience in a caring role would be an advantage but is not essential, as training can be provided.
Character references will be required, and the successful candidate will be expected to obtain a PVG certificate.
Mary gets along well with everyone but particularly connects with people who are gentle, cheerful and have a positive outlook. Having someone kind, understanding and supportive around her would make a positive difference to her wellbeing.
The position is home-based in Crookston (G53). The house is well-kept and set up to meet Mary's needs. There is parking available on the driveway, and bus stops nearby on Crookston Road.
Mary is looking for someone who can provide support, encouragement and good company. If this sounds like the right role for you, we'd be delighted to hear from you.
