Job summary

Compass Disability Services in Weymouth is seeking a caring individual to spend 1–2 Saturdays a month with a young lady who has autism and may feel lonely. You will provide companionship, assist with daily activities, and support social engagement.

Driving licence and own vehicle are required. DBS check and references may be requested. You will work for the family, not for Compass directly, and confidentiality is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting individuals with autism or special needs.
• Ability to provide companionship and assist with basic daily tasks.
• Reliable, respectful, and discreet with confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Offer companionship and engage in activities such as reading.
• Assist with light hair care and domestic tasks (where needed).
• Help with meals and shopping; accompany to activities as required.
• Supervise or assist in medication administration if directed.
• Provide safe daytime/outings support including driving to activities.
• Maintain dignity, privacy and independence for the client.
• Communicate clearly and be punctual and flexible.

Do you consider yourself a caring person. If so, are you able to spare a few hours 1 or 2 Saturdays a month to make a difference to a young lady with autism who can feel lonely and who might not otherwise be able to get out and about and/or engage in recreational activities? This young person struggles socially and lacks confidence and understanding of the ways of the world, so we are seeking support from someone who has experience of special needs and/or specifically autism and who is willing to provide company and companionship as well as help with daily activities with which she struggles. We are looking for a kind individual with an understanding personality who might see themselves as a 'paid friend' and someone willing, and able, to effectively support this young person. Main Duties:

• Offer companionship, reading and some hair care activities
• Some domestic chores (this is mostly covered by others)
• Support in the preparation of meals and shopping for these (if required, mostly covered by others)
• Supervise or assist in the administration of prescribed medication under my direction (if required)
• Escort for day to day and other activities that may include driving
• Respectful of confidentiality and privacy
• Responsible, reliable and trustworthy
• Respectful of dignity and independence
• Good communication skills and social skills
• Punctual and flexible
• Ability to work on your own initiative
• Understanding, adaptable and organised
• Driving licence, use of own vehicle required and business insurance essential
