ARM International is seeking a Permanent Way Design Engineer for a long-term contract in Docklands, London. You will develop detailed Permanent Way designs for rail upgrade, renewal and enhancements, covering plain line and S&C renewals, track lowering and platform extensions.

You will review designs, mentor junior engineers, oversee technical aspects, and liaise with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Familiarity with MicroStation, RailTrack/OpenRail is preferred and professional

• HNC or equivalent with substantial engineering experience or a civil engineering degree.
• Strong experience in Permanent Way and track design.
• Experience developing accurate track, S&C and plain line designs.
• Knowledge of trackform and track componentry.
• Experience leading small teams and managing own workload.
• Knowledge of UK rail safety legislation and CDM.

• Develop detailed Permanent Way designs across rail upgrade, renewal and enhancement projects.
• Produce designs covering plain line and S&C renewals, track lowering, platform extensions and linespeed improvement schemes.
• Undertake structural gauging and passing clearance analysis.
• Produce technical documentation, including calculations, reports and specifications.
• Prepare designer's risk assessments and ensure hazards are appropriately addressed through the design process.
• Review and check the work of other team members.
• Oversee technical aspects of track design where required.
• Deliver design packages to agreed quality, programme and budget requirements.
• Attend formal interdisciplinary design reviews.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams.
• Mentor and support less experienced members of the design team.

About You

You will ideally have:

• HNC with substantial engineering experience or a relevant Civil Engineering degree/equivalent.
• Strong experience in Permanent Way and track design.
• Experience developing accurate track, S&C and Plain Line designs.
• Knowledge of trackform and track componentry.
• Experience managing your own workload and leading small teams.
• Knowledge of UK railway track and/or railway civil engineering surveying, specification and construction/renewal.
• Understanding of UK rail safety legislation and CDM .
• Working knowledge of Network Rail Group and Line Standards and/or LU equivalents.
• Experience using MicroStation and Bentley RailTrack and/or OpenRail.
• Ideally, professional accreditation or working towards professional qualification.
• Detailed trackform design, including drainage, under track crossings and formation design.
• Track renewals and maintenance.
• Knowledge of stressing.
• Previous experience as a Contractor's Responsible Engineer.
• Experience with ClearRoute.
