Job description

An experienced permanent live in housekeeper is required to start ASAP near Newbury. This is a live in role for someone who has longevity working in a private household as a housekeeper.

This is a busy and varied role for a household, and someone who is extremely flexible and willing is essential. The household is a weekend residence; therefore, it is essential the candidate is happy to work weekends and have two days off during the week. The candidate should also be flexible and happy to work evening shifts if required when the clients are entertaining.

The family are young, with 3 children, so this job will suit someone extremely family-friendly and used to chaos, toys, and children. The family also has dogs, so an animal and country lover is absolutely essential.

Initially, the job will start in a 5-bedroom home and will then transfer to an 11-bedroom home (that is currently being renovated). The housekeeper will work underneath the head housekeeper and must be happy to take guidance and instruction but should also be able to work independently on the head housekeeper's days off. It is important the housekeeper has a happy and easy-going personality, is professional, well-presented, and discreet. They should be able to respect the family's privacy but be confident to interact with the clients when needed.

The housekeeper should be calm and able to work well with last-minute changes and work well in a team. Main duties will include:

1. Cleaning (mopping, hoovering, dusting, bed changes, ironing, laundry, deep cleans)
2. Service of food and drink
3. Preparing the house for the family's arrival
4. Organisation and ensuring the household is presented to the standards required at all times

During school holidays, the family will be in residence during the week as well as at weekends, so these are busy times.

The candidate must have a car and be able to drive. A work vehicle can be provided for work purposes, but for days off and free time, the candidate will need their own car.

This is a traditional rural estate, and it is important the candidate enjoys rural life and country pursuits.

Overview:

1. ASAP for 5-bedroom home (with outbuildings)
2. Other staff include one full-time head housekeeper and one part-time housekeeper
3. Must be happy to work weekends, with days off during the week
4. Must be happy to work longer days/hours during busy times with time taken off when it is quieter/the family is not in residence
5. The full-time head housekeeper has been there for 5-6 years
6. In April/May, the job will move to an 11-bed home set in 6 acres plus 2 cottages
7. There will be a team of 3 full-time housekeepers in this property (including this candidate)
8. Ideal candidate is someone living locally or prepared to source their own accommodation
9. Previous private household experience or yacht experience essential
10. Must be willing to work underneath the head housekeeper and follow instruction, but then be able to work independently when required
11. Flexible attitude and willingness to muck in and act at short notice requests is essential
12. Must be physically fit as these are large homes
13. Child-friendly, animal-friendly, rural lover essential
14. Driver with own car essential
15. An easy to get on with character is a must; happy team essential!
