Job summary

Northumberland Church of England Academy Trust in Ashington is looking for a Peripatetic Site Assistant to deliver hands-on maintenance, repairs and caretaking across campus sites, starting at Josephine Butler Campus in Ashington. The role is busy and varied, focusing on safety, presentation and practical problem-solving.

You will travel between sites with a full UK driving licence, perform routine checks, assist with events and ensure alarms, lighting and building services are functioning.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence required.
• Experience in building maintenance or caretaking is desirable.

Responsibilities

• General maintenance, such as plumbing, joinery, quick electrical tasks and lightbulb changes.
• Open/close buildings, conduct security/alarm checks and respond to emergency call outs.
• Carry out essential safety checks including emergency lighting, water monitoring, and fire alarm tests.
• Keep external areas clean and safe, including gritting and snow clearance when required.
• Assist with events and daily school operations, setting up rooms for parents evenings, exams and assemblies.

The Trust has a unique opportunity for a Peripatetic Site Assistant to join the team and provide quality maintenance and caretaking support at the Josephine Butler Campus in Ashington. This role is perfect for a skilled professional that is looking for a rewarding career in an environment that provides variety and purpose. The ideal candidate will help ensure that the school's building, grounds and facilities are safe, secure, and well maintained at all times. Josephine Butler is our largest campus so this is quite a busy role, with additional duties in areas such as the hydro-pool, lettings, and the operation of BMS systems. The role will be focused on practical, hands-on maintenance and DIY repairs that ensure site presentation and safety. No two days are the same, and the role may require flexibility to travel between different sites, so a full UK driving licence is essential.

Main Responsibilities

• General maintenance, such as basic plumbing, joinery, fixing work and minor electrical tasks (e.g. changing lightbulbs)
• Opening and closing the school buildings, conducting routine security/alarm checks, and responding to emergency call outs.
• Conduct essential safety checks such as emergency lighting tests, water monitoring, and fire alarm testing.
• Keep external areas clean, safe and clear of debris such as leaves and branches. This also includes gritting and snow clearance during bad weather.
• Support with daily school operations, such as setting up rooms and halls for events such as parents evening, exams, and assemblies.
