Job summary

Northumber­land Church of England Academy Trust in Ashington invites applications for a Peripatetic Site Assistant. You will perform general maintenance and caretaking to keep the campus safe, secure and well presented. The role covers Josephine Butler Campus in Ashington, with travel between sites required.

The position is permanent, 37 hours per week, band 5 salary (£29,542 - £32,578). Experience in basic plumbing, joinery or electrical tasks is desirable and a full UK driving licence is

Responsibilities

  • General maintenance, such as basic plumbing, joinery, fixing work and minor electrical tasks (e.g. changing lightbulbs)
  • Opening and closing the school buildings, conducting routine security/alarm checks, and responding to emergency call outs.
  • Conduct essential safety checks such as emergency lighting tests, water monitoring, and fire alarm testing.
  • Keep external areas clean, safe and clear of debris such as leaves and branches. This also includes gritting and snow clearance during bad weather.
  • Support with daily school operations, such as setting up rooms and halls for events such as parents evening, exams, and assemblies.

The ideal candidate will help ensure that the school's building, grounds and facilities are safe, secure, and well maintained at all times.Josephine Butler is our largest campus so this is quite a busy role, with additional duties in areas such as the hydro-pool, lettings, and the operation of BMS systems.The role will be focused on practical, hands-on maintenance and DIY repairs that ensure site presentation and safety.
