Job summary

Essex County Council is recruiting a peripatetic Teacher of the Deaf to join the Deaf and Hearing Support Service. The role covers a geographic caseload with lone working in homes and schools, requiring a driving licence or mobility alternatives.

You will train as a Teacher of the Deaf if not already qualified, join a multidisciplinary team, and provide specialist teaching, advice and support to deaf children, families and schools within Colchester and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher status with ability to teach deaf pupils or willingness to train as Teacher of the Deaf (training funded).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in SEND and audiology-related areas.
  • Experience with children and young people in SEND and collaboration with multiple agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of deaf/hearing-impaired children and young people to ensure inclusion.
  • Plan and deliver specialist training to staff on deafness and educational implications.
  • Work with families, schools, audiology, SLT and SEND services to inform decision making.
  • Contribute to policy development for the Sensory Impairment Team.
  • Maintain records and write specialist reports for EHCPs and provision.
