Job summary

The City of Edinburgh Council is seeking a Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People for a citywide, peripatetic role across Edinburgh. You will work with deaf learners aged 0-18 in home, Early Years, primary, secondary and special school settings, providing specialist support and inclusive communication strategies.

Salary scale £36,159–£54,453 with 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. The post requires flexible location coverage within the city and commitment to PVG checks and inclusive

Responsibilities

• Receiving referrals for specialist deaf support.
• Conducting specialist assessments and interpreting audiological information.
• Testing hearing levels and monitoring hearing aid settings.
• Assessing communication and language levels across sign and spoken language.
• Fitting and monitoring assistive listening devices.
• Ensuring schools apply for access arrangements for statutory assessments.
• Participating in multi-agency assessment to identify needs and progress.
• Providing advice and training to learners, parents and staff on deafness implications.
• Direct teaching with enriched language input (1:1, small groups, or team teaching).
• Working with professionals including staff, BS L Tutor, Audiologists, SLT.
• Supporting transitions from birth through to post-school provision and adulthood.
