Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is recruiting a Registered Nurse (Adult/General) or Registered ODP to join the Perioperative Team at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. The role involves delivering safe, person-centred perioperative care, leading a nursing team, and contributing to audit, education and improvement activities.

Fixed Term Role - 21.19 hours across a 7-day pattern. Requires current NMC/HCPC registration, perioperative experience and the ability to work flexibly in a busy environment.

Qualifications

• First Level Registered Nurse (Adult/General Nursing) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP).
• Current NMC or HCPC registration (evidence required).
• Experience in Scrub/Theatre Practice and/or Anaesthetics and/or Recovery.
• Experience in a perioperative role and ability to supervise staff.
• Knowledge of NHS policies, infection control and clinical governance.

Job description

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse (Adult/General Nursing) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join our Perioperative Team within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will assess patient care needs, develop and implement programmes of care, and evaluate outcomes to ensure the delivery of high‑quality, person‑centred care within the perioperative environment. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating flexibility within a seven‑day service that includes out‑of‑hours working. Clyde Theatres offers a comprehensive perioperative dual‑training programme and multi‑specialty training supported by the GGC Centre of Clinical Perioperative Excellence, providing excellent opportunities for professional development across a diverse range of surgical specialities.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for delivering safe, effective, evidence‑based, person‑centred care within the perioperative setting. This includes assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care programmes, maintaining professional standards, and ensuring accurate patient record keeping. You will regularly lead and support a team of nursing staff, supervise registered and non‑registered colleagues, contribute to staff development, and participate in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives. The role also involves managing resources effectively, maintaining a safe clinical environment, supporting education and training activities, promoting multidisciplinary team working, and ensuring compliance with NHS policies, professional standards, and legislative requirements. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate effectively with patients, families, carers, and colleagues while demonstrating sound clinical judgement and leadership within a busy perioperative environment.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

• First Level Registered Nurse (Adult/General Nursing) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP).
• Current NMC or HCPC registration (evidence required prior to commencement).
• Experience in Scrub/Theatre Practice and/or Anaesthetics and/or Recovery is essential.
• Previous experience in a perioperative role is required for this post.
• Demonstrable ability to deliver high standards of person‑centred care.
• Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to supervise and support registered and non‑registered staff.
• Understanding of professional accountability and relevant NMC/HCPC codes of practice.
• Knowledge of NHS policies, Health & Safety legislation, infection prevention, and clinical governance requirements.
• Experience participating in practice development, audit, research, or quality improvement activities.
• Ability to use electronic patient record systems and clinical IT systems.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
• Willingness to undertake perioperative education and specialist training opportunities.
• PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland clearance required.
