Job summary

CAF Rail UK is seeking a Performance Engineer to investigate safety, reliability and technical issues across vehicle fleets. You will analyse failures, review maintenance data, and work with the Maintenance and Project teams to implement improvements and engineering changes.

You will use data systems like GMAO and LeadMind to build trend analyses, generate reports, and support warranty actions with suppliers. Occasional UK/Europe travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Systems Reliability and Performance role.
• Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Strong planning and organisational skills.
• Experience writing technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Monitor fleet and materials performance and suggest improvements.
• Daily review of in-service failures and vehicle availability.
• Root cause analysis of defective material and trends.
• Investigate safety defects and support SRD management with the manager.
• Use GMAO/LeadMind to produce trend analyses for reports and meetings.
• Create WECRs and other business reports as required.
• Collaborate with suppliers to address warranty issues and corrective actions.
• Provide materials engineering support to procurement and technical teams.
• Support Engineering Change process and documentation updates.
• Produce technical investigative reports on significant faults.
• Coordinate with Production and Maintenance to prioritise repairs.
• Develop relationships with Rail Services After Sales Engineering and CAF Rail UK.
• Utilise measurement tools to diagnose on-vehicle faults.

What will be your role in the company?

Reporting to the Performance Manager, the role of Performance Engineer is responsible for the investigation of all safety, reliability and technical issues on the vehicles, providing technical support to team leaders and technicians.

As the Performance Engineer, you will review and analyse the in-service failures, maintenance records, vehicle data, client reports and defects, along with other sources of information daily. You will undertake regular reviews of defective material to establish the root cause and identify failure trends. You will work closely with the Project Support Engineer and the Maintenance team to identify and implement technical improvements, modifications and process engineering changes.

The role may on occasion involve some UK and Europe travel to engage with other CAF projects or suppliers.

Your daily duties will include:

• Monitoring and reporting of the fleet and materials performance and suggest methodsto improve its reliability.
• Daily review of in-service failures and vehicle availability.
• Regular review of defective material to establish the root cause.
• Undertake investigation of all Technical Incidents and Safety Related Defects. In conjunction with the Performance Manager, support the Management of SafetyRelated Defects (SRDs) procedure, ensuring the project tracker is maintained andupdated regularly.
• Utilising GMAO, LeadMind or other sources of data to produce detailed trend analysis of vehicle system and component failures for inclusion in reports or review at technicalmeetings.
• Generate WECRs or other such business reports as required.
• Develop relationships and processes with suppliers to ensure warranty issues areaddressed expediently and corrective actions are applied.
• Provide general materials engineering support and problem solving for technical andprocurement departments.
• Support the vandalism process between CAF and the clientIdentification of modifications to improve fleet reliability.
• In conjunction with the Performance Manager, support the management of theEngineering Change process.
• Produce detailed technical investigative reports on significant safety and technicalfaults.
• Utilise specialist measurement and monitoring equipment to aid in the diagnosis of on-vehicle faults
• Produce, manage, and update reliability and availability data to assist with thecustomer arbitration process.
• Work closely with the Production Manager to agree the priority of repairs,modifications and campaigns, providing supporting documentation as required
• Work closely with the Maintenance Engineer to ensure supporting maintenancedocumentation is up to date and technical queries are resolved.
• Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Rail Services After Sales Engineering and other Performance Engineers and Managers through CAF Rail UK.
