Job summary

CAF is seeking a Performance Engineer to investigate safety, reliability and technical issues on CAF vehicles, providing expert support to team leaders and technicians. You will review failures, maintenance records and vehicle data, identifying root causes and driving improvements with engineering and maintenance colleagues.

The role may involve UK and Europe travel to engage with CAF projects or suppliers.

Qualifications

  • HND or above in an Engineering related discipline.
  • Experience in a System Reliability and Performance role.
  • PC literate with the ability to learn new software programmes quickly.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Proven experience in planning and organising.
  • Experience writing technical reports.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and reporting the fleet and materials performance and suggesting ways to improve reliability.
  • Daily review of in-service failures and vehicle availability.
  • Regular review of defective material to establish root causes.
  • Investigate safety and technical faults and support SRD processes.
  • Produce detailed trend analyses using data systems like GMAO/LeadMind and prepare reports.

What will be your role in the company?

Reporting to the Performance Manager, the role of Performance Engineer is responsible for the investigation of all safety, reliability and technical issues on the vehicles, providing technical support to team leaders and technicians.

As the Performance Engineer, you will review and analyse the in-service failures, maintenance records, vehicle data, client reports and defects, along with other sources of information daily. You will undertake regular reviews of defective material to establish the root cause and identify failure trends. You will work closely with the Project Support Engineer and the Maintenance team to identify and implement technical improvements, modifications and process engineering changes.

The role may on occasion involve some UK and Europe travel to engage with other CAF projects or suppliers.

Your daily duties will include:
  • Monitoring and reporting of the fleet and materials performance and suggest methods to improve its reliability.
  • Daily review of in-service failures and vehicle availability.
  • Regular review of defective material to establish the root cause.
  • Undertake investigation of all Technical Incidents and Safety Related Defects. In conjunction with the Performance Manager, support the Management of Safety Related Defects (SRDs) procedure, ensuring the project tracker is maintained and updated regularly.
  • Utilising GMAO, LeadMind or other sources of data to produce detailed trend analysis of vehicle system and component failures for inclusion in reports or review at technical meetings.
  • Generate WECRs or other such business reports as required.
  • Develop relationships and processes with suppliers to ensure warranty issues are addressed expediently and corrective actions are applied.
  • Provide general materials engineering support and problem solving for technical and procurement departments.
  • Support the vandalism process between CAF and the client Identification of modifications to improve fleet reliability.
  • In conjunction with the Performance Manager, support the management of the Engineering Change process.
  • Produce detailed technical investigative reports on significant safety and technical faults.
  • Utilise specialist measurement and monitoring equipment to aid in the diagnosis of on-vehicle faults
  • Produce, manage, and update reliability and availability data to assist with the customer arbitration process.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager to agree the priority of repairs, modifications and campaigns, providing supporting documentation as required
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Engineer to ensure supporting maintenance documentation is up to date and technical queries are resolved.
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Rail Services After Sales Engineering and other Performance Engineers and Managers through CAF Rail UK.
What salary will you be paid for this role?

As a Real Living Wage Employer, we are proud to pay competitively at CAF. For this role you will be offered a salary in the region of £68,000 per annum
