Job summary

Mitie Cleaning & Hygiene Services is seeking a Payroll Lead to manage TUPE In, TUPE Out and acquisition payroll activity, ensuring transfers are completed accurately and on time. You will provide day-to-day leadership to the TUPE & Acquisitions team and act as the first escalation point for complex payroll queries.

The role offers collaboration with HR, Finance and mobilisation teams and provides opportunities to redesign end‑to‑end processes, strengthen controls and improve the employee

Role Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of all TUPE In, TUPE Out and acquisition payroll activity, monitoring key milestones, data quality, risks and dependencies to ensure transfers are completed accurately and on time.
• Provide clear day-to-day leadership to the TUPE & Acquisitions team, including work allocation, resource planning, coaching, one-to-ones, appraisals, training and development.
• Act as the first point of escalation for complex payroll queries, delivery risks, data issues and stakeholder concerns, taking ownership through to resolution.
• Build effective relationships with HR, Finance, IT, mobilisation teams, contract stakeholders, incumbent providers and other payroll teams to support successful employee transfers.
• Lead continuous improvement across end-to-end TUPE and acquisition processes, using data, colleague feedback, audit findings and root-cause analysis to strengthen controls, reduce manual activity and improve service delivery.

What We're Looking For

• Practical knowledge of TUPE In, TUPE Out and acquisition payroll processes, supported by strong payroll administration knowledge.
• Previous experience of leading, coaching or coordinating colleagues, with the ability to set priorities and manage changing workloads.
• Demonstrable experience of delivering process improvements from initial diagnosis through to testing, implementation and benefits review.
• Excellent organisational, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and and elevate concerns appropriately.
• Strong attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll or HR systems, ideally including SAP or an equivalent platform.
