Job summary

Môrwell Talent Solutions Ltd, in partnership with a highly regarded public sector organisation, is recruiting a Pension Fund Accountant on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The role covers the accounting and financial reporting for the Pension Fund and requires solid pension accounting experience within the public sector.

Qualifications

• Experience working within a local authority or wider public sector organisation.
• Practical exposure to pension accounting, pension fund financial reporting, pension reconciliations or related pension finance activities.
• An accountancy qualification, or be part-qualified, a finalist, currently studying towards a recognised accountancy qualification, or qualified by experience (QBE).

Responsibilities

• Pension Fund accounts and reporting: Support and coordinate the preparation of the Pension Fund’s annual report and accounts, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements.
• IAS 19 and FRS 102: Coordinate the annual IAS 19 and FRS 102 exercise for scheme employers, providing technical interpretation and advice as required.
• Statutory and regulatory returns: Prepare and submit the annual SF3, quarterly tax submissions and quarterly ONS returns.
• Pension contributions and recharges: Reconcile pension contribution income, monitor payments against deadlines, and ensure pension strain costs are accounted for.
• Payroll and balance sheet reconciliations: Reconcile monthly pensioner payroll and Pension Fund bank/payroll suspense accounts.
• Cash management: Monitor and reconcile cash balances in line with cash strategy.
• Budgeting and financial systems: Support annual budget preparation and maintain records in financial systems.
• Audit and external relationships: Act as contact for auditors, actuary, investment manager and advisers.
• Financial advice and support: Provide accurate financial information and accounting guidance to stakeholders.
