Qualifications

Description

This role has a starting salary of £32,512 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week.

We are pleased to be hiring a new PDP Traffic Engineer, to join our Highways Engagement and Commissioning Team. The team is based out of Merrow Complex, Merrow Lane, Merrow, Guildford, Surrey GU4 7BQ, but we promote a hybrid approach to working, meeting collaboratively when required.

We are a team that is customer focused and liaises closely with county councillors and the Highways Design Team to assist in identifying, progressing and delivering highway improvements.

About the Role

The role sits within the Highways Engagement and Commissioning Team, which is part of the Highways Operations and Infrastructure Group in the Highways and Transport Service. The focus for the group is to provide excellent customer service for highways works funded from our budget, and this is embraced to ensure that county councillors and customers are at the heart of everything we do.

As part of the Highways Engagement and Commissioning team, you will be responsible for assisting the traffic engineer to provide technical advice to county councillors to help identify and progress small scale highway improvements, such as new pedestrian crossings, speed limit reductions and traffic calming measures, that are important to the local community. You will also be responding to customer enquiries regarding requests for minor highway improvements, approving the installation of 3rd party assets on the highway, requests for changes to existing small scale infrastructure and working closely with other teams regarding their proposed schemes.

In addition to this, the team works with key local stakeholders, such as Parish Councils/Residents Associations to better understand the needs of an area, which will influence the work of the various engineering teams. This is likely to be through focus groups, surveys or engagement events and research.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Degree/HNC equivalent, or relevant experience in a relevant subject
  • Ability to manage a range of small projects, including budget monitoring and prioritising workloads to ensure that the projects are delivered on time and to budget
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Proven written and oral communication with the ability to influence and work in collaboration with others

Surrey has both urban and rural areas therefore you will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area.
