Job summary

Specialist Passenger Solutions (SPS) is recruiting a heavy vehicle maintenance technician in Ipswich to service PCV fleets across our sites.

You will perform MOT preparation, inspections, diagnostics and repairs, ensuring safety and compliance while coordinating with engineering and operations. We offer a 24/7 capable workshop, competitive pay at £24 per hour, and a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• Minimum NVQ Level 3 or C&G equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (PCV preferred).
• At least two years of post-training experience in heavy vehicle engineering, preferably PCV.
• Possession of a full driving licence (category D desirable).

Responsibilities

• MOT preparation, vehicle inspection, maintenance, diagnostic and repair services for a varied PCV fleet.
• Maintain understanding of vehicle inspection standards and compliance requirements.
• Promote good working relationships between engineering and operations to achieve objectives.
• Follow procedures to control parts usage and stock.
• Proactive in ensuring peak vehicle availability.

Specialist Passenger Solutions provides essential bus services transporting thousands of workers to and from Sizewell C. By joining our technician team, you will work across a variety of vehicle types, including electric, hydrogen and diesel vehicles, using cutting-edge diagnostic technology.

You will play a key role in ensuring vehicles meet our safety and performance standards, enabling us to deliver outstanding service for our customers every day.

Summary of key duties & responsibilities:

• To be part of a team providing MOT preparation, vehicle inspection, maintenance, diagnostic and repair services to a varied PCV fleet
• To maintain a clear understanding of vehicle inspection standards and compliance requirements
• To be part of the process of promoting and ensuring a good working relationship between the engineering and operations departments, essential to achieving our shared objectives.
• To follow all procedures to control and monitor parts usage and stock control.
• As part of the engineering team, to be consistently proactive in ensuring that peak vehicle requirement is achieved.

Essential for the role:

• Minimum NVQ Level 3 or C&G equivalent or above in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (PCV preferred)
• At least two years relevant, recent, and demonstrable post training experience in heavy vehicle engineering, preferably PCV
• The ability to apply consistently high standards of technical judgement
• A pragmatic and proactive, can-do attitude to short notice workshop deadlines
• A flexible approach to working hours as we work towards becoming a 24/7 business.
• Possession of a full driving licence (category D desirable)

Desirable for the role:

• PCV Electrical system aptitude and experience in the bus industry
• Good electrical and diagnostic ability
• Possession of IRTEC licence (Inspection / Service Maintenance Technician)
• Knowledge of the transport sector
