Job description for Paramedic Practitioner at Swallowfield Medical Practice

The role provides a specialist Paramedic resource for healthcare professionals and service users, working collaboratively within the Multidisciplinary Team.

Main duties include:

1. Working within the community as an autonomous, accountable Paramedic Practitioner, providing holistic assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
2. Assessing, diagnosing, treating, referring, or signposting patients with undifferentiated or undiagnosed minor illnesses or injuries.
3. Using advanced clinical skills to educate service users, promoting self-care and informed decision-making.
4. Owning a vehicle for home visits, with expenses included in the package.

Main duties of the job

Supporting within the Acute Illness Clinic, diagnosing and treating patients with minor illnesses.

Swallowfield Medical Practice comprises 8 GPs, 3 Paramedic Practitioners, a nursing team, and other healthcare professionals, supported by administrative and dispensary staff.

Job responsibilities

The Paramedic Practitioner will:

• Support the primary healthcare team by triaging and treating patients, making referrals as necessary.
• Ensure safe and effective clinical practice within competence boundaries.
• Advise on health care and minor ailments, referring to other team members as needed.
• Work both in the surgery and community as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining professional standards.
• Conduct community assessments, using diagnostic skills and investigations.
• Maintain accurate healthcare records and ensure evidence-based care.
• Participate in continuous professional development and audits.
• Undertake collection of pathological specimens and investigatory procedures as requested.
• Participate in practice meetings, training, and development activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and promote equality and diversity within the team and with patients.
• Strive for high-quality care, managing time and resources effectively.
• Communicate effectively with team members, patients, and carers.
• Contribute to service development and audit activities.
