Job summary

James Gray Associates is seeking a Payroll Implementation Consultant in Birmingham to help clients modernise payroll operations and implement workforce management technology. The role is hybrid, combining client-facing consulting with hands-on payroll delivery.

You will analyse existing payroll setups, identify gaps, advise on controls and compliance, and work with systems such as Workday, Oracle, SAP or Dayforce to deliver transformations for UK clients.

Qualifications

• Experienced payroll professional with a strong background in UK payroll operations.
• Understanding payroll beyond processing, including controls, compliance, systems and wider business impact.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
• Comfortable analysing large volumes of payroll data and using Excel to identify trends, issues and discrepancies.
• Confident working with payroll technology and systems, with exposure to platforms such as Workday, Oracle, SAP or Dayforce.
• Strong consulting and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work directly with clients.
• International payroll exposure would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on how to improve and modernise their payroll operations
• Assess existing payroll setups and identify gaps, risks and opportunities for change
• Help clients select and implement payroll and workforce management technology
• Provide specialist input across payroll projects, audits and transformation programmes
• Work alongside project teams to help deliver complex client engagements from start to finish
• Build relationships with key stakeholders and act as a trusted payroll advisor
• Support business development through proposals, tenders, presentations and client meetings
• Contribute to developing new payroll solutions, processes and industry best practice
