Qualifications

  • At least two years' payroll and pensions experience.
  • Solid knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, and payroll legislation.
  • Experience with payroll software (BrightPay, Sage, Xero or QuickBooks) is beneficial.

Job description

Payroll Assistant

Location: Diss

Salary: £27,300 per annum

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Working Pattern: Office-based

About the Role

My client is looking to recruit an experienced Payroll Assistant to join their established and supportive finance team in Diss.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a solid background in payroll and pensions who enjoys working in a busy environment and takes pride in delivering an accurate, reliable and professional service.

You will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day payroll function, working with both clients and employees to resolve queries and ensuring payroll information is processed accurately and within strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Processing payroll and pension information accurately and efficiently.
  • Administering workplace pension schemes, including calculating and processing contributions.
  • Liaising with pension providers and other relevant third parties when required.
  • Responding to payroll queries from clients and employees, providing clear and helpful support.
  • Handling payroll-related correspondence with HMRC and other external authorities.
  • Dealing with matters including tax codes, PAYE, National Insurance and statutory payments.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date payroll records.
  • Ensuring payroll information is handled confidentially and in line with GDPR requirements.
  • Working to tight payroll deadlines and ensuring all work is completed accurately.
  • Supporting the wider finance team with payroll-related administration where required.
About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • At least two years' experience working in payroll and pensions.
  • Previous experience within an accountancy practice, payroll bureau or similar environment would be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, pensions and current payroll legislation.
  • Experience using payroll software; knowledge of systems such as BrightPay, Sage, Xero or QuickBooks would be beneficial.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
  • The confidence to communicate professionally with clients, employees and external organisations.
  • The ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
  • A proactive, reliable and professional approach.
