Job summary

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is recruiting a Trainee Payroll Officer to join our Employee Business Services team. You will learn to input pay data into the ESR system and contribute to accurate payroll processing for thousands of NHS staff, working to strict deadlines with a strong emphasis on accuracy.

This office-based role requires good IT skills, attention to detail and a commitment to service improvement. Training toward a payroll qualification is provided as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Experience using Microsoft Windows and Office packages.
• Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Understanding of GDPR and confidential data handling.

Responsibilities

• Input pay-related data into the ESR Payroll system and perform calculations (PAYE, NIC, SMP, SSP).
• Maintain accuracy and meet strict deadlines while processing payroll data.
• Provide guidance to employees in line with departmental procedures and policies.
• Apply corrective actions in ESR to ensure accurate statutory deductions.
