Job summary

Alder Forest is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to lead end-to-end payroll processes for a large workforce in the utilities sector across Greater Manchester. You will handle weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls, ensure RTI compliance, pension uploads, and year-end reporting while collaborating with HR and finance to optimise payroll operations.

The role requires knowledge of UK payroll legislation, proficiency with ADP, Civica, Sage or similar systems, and advanced Excel.

Qualifications

  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g. ADP, PeopleHub, Civica & Sage) and time management tools.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment and tax legislation.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial and HRIS systems.
  • Confident communicator with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end processing of weekly, fortnightly & monthly payrolls for diverse employee groups, including site and office-based teams.
  • Month end reporting, reconciliation of payroll reports and RTI submissions.
  • Pension reconciliation and upload into pension portal.
  • Support the rollout of new payroll systems including data migration, testing, and training.
  • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to streamline payroll processes and reporting.
  • P11D and Year-End Reporting.
  • Prepare and submit P11D forms for employee benefits and expenses in line with HMRC guidelines.
  • Assist with year-end processes including reconciliation, audit support and statutory reporting.
  • Maintain comprehensive payroll records and documentation particularly relating to regulatory audits.
  • Generate payroll reports and analytics to support finance and operational leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC reporting, and industry-specific pay practices.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and site managers during mobilisation and demobilisation phases of projects.
  • Providing advice to employees in relation to payroll queries, mainly on telephone and email.
  • Reconciliation of weekly Timesheets, along with the input of overtime and bonus payments.
  • Processing of expenses across the business.
  • Supporting the team and supervisors within payroll.

Key Responsibilities
