Job summary

Network Plus in Worsley is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to manage end-to-end payroll for a 5,000+ employee base in the utilities sector. The role covers weekly, fortnightly and monthly payroll cycles, RTI submissions and year-end reporting, with strong emphasis on accuracy and compliance.

You will work with IT and Finance to streamline payroll processes, perform pension reconciliations, and support system implementations.

Qualifications

  • Experience with UK payroll processing and statutory reporting.
  • Proficient with Excel and HRIS systems.
  • Strong understanding of RTI, P11D and year-end reporting.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end processing of weekly, fortnightly & monthly payrolls for diverse employee groups.
  • Month-end reporting and reconciliation of payroll reports and RTI submissions.
  • Pension reconciliation and upload into pension portal.
  • Support the rollout of new payroll systems including data migration, testing, and training.
  • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to streamline payroll processes and reporting.
  • P11D and Year-End Reporting. Prepare and submit P11D forms for employee benefits and expenses in line with HMRC guidelines.
  • Maintain comprehensive payroll records and documentation for regulatory audits.
  • Generate payroll reports and analytics for leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC reporting, and industry practices.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and site managers during mobilisation and demobilisation phases.
  • Provide payroll queries support to employees via phone and email.
  • Reconcile weekly timesheets and input overtime/bonus payments.
  • Process expenses across the business.
  • Support the payroll team and supervisors.

Job description

We’re pleased to announce that we are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to manage and execute payroll operations within the fast-paced utilities sector with over 5000 employees.

Department: Finance

Location: Worsley

Compensation: £30,000 - £35,000 / year

Key Responsibilities
  • End-to-end processing of weekly, fortnightly & monthly payrolls for diverse employee groups, including site and office-based teams.
  • Month end reporting, reconciliation of payroll reports and RTI submissions.
  • Pension reconciliation and upload into pension portal.
  • Support the rollout of new payroll systems including data migration, testing, and training.
  • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to streamline payroll processes and reporting.
  • P11D and Year-End Reporting. Prepare and submit P11D forms for employee benefits and expenses in line with HMRC guidelines. Assist with year-end processes including reconciliation, audit support and statutory reporting.
  • Maintain comprehensive payroll records and documentation particularly relating to regulatory audits.
  • Generate payroll reports and analytics to support finance and operational leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC reporting, and industry-specific pay practices (e.g. travel and subsistence, shift patterns).
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and site managers during mobilisation and demobilisation phases of projects.
  • Providing advice to employees in relation to payroll queries, mainly on telephone and email
  • Reconciliation of weekly Timesheets, along with the input of overtime and bonus payments
  • Processing of expenses across the business
  • Supporting the team and supervisors within payroll
Experience and Qualifications
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g. ADP, PeopleHub, Civica & Sage) and time management tools.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment and tax legislation.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial and HRIS systems.
  • Confident communicator with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
Preferred Attributes
  • Experience managing multi-site, project-based payrolls.
  • Understanding of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) and contractor compliance.
