Job summary

Cornerstone Community Care is seeking a Payroll Lead to shape payroll and pension services across our multi-site organisation. You will provide strategic oversight and lead a team of Payroll Business Partners, Specialists and Officers to deliver accurate, compliant and timely payroll for around 1,800 colleagues.

Based in Glasgow, Dundee or Aberdeen with hybrid working and occasional travel, the role offers the opportunity to drive improvements, strengthen controls and partner with HR, Finance

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading end-to-end payroll and pension services.
• Current knowledge of PAYE, RTI, National Insurance, statutory payments and auto-enrolment.
• Degree-level qualification; CIPP/IPPM or equivalent leadership experience.
• Strong leadership and people-management skills.
• Experience with payroll reconciliations, month-end and year-end reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead the accurate, timely and compliant delivery of monthly payroll and pension services.
• Develop and lead the Payroll Team, creating a positive, accountable and customer-focused environment.
• Review and approve payroll before final submission, ensuring robust checks and authorisations.
• Maintain effective payroll controls, segregation of duties and clear audit trails.
• Oversee statutory submissions, pension administration, payroll reconciliations, journals, month-end reporting and year-end activities.
• Ensure compliance with payroll, tax, employment, pension and data protection requirements.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and implement changes.
• Produce payroll analysis and management information for Finance, People and senior leaders.
• Use data to identify trends, exceptions and risks and drive improvements.
• Lead development and improvement of payroll systems, processes, controls and data quality.
• Provide professional advice on complex payroll matters.
