Job summary

Reed is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Executive for a part-time role (three days a week) to join a busy HR and Payroll team. You will deliver accurate, compliant payroll services and provide first-line support to employees and managers on payroll and pension matters.

The role covers monthly payroll processing, pensions auto-enrolment, RTI, year-end tasks, and producing payroll reports, with opportunities to improve processes and work closely with colleagues to enhance the employee experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience in payroll environment.
  • Knowledge of HMRC regulations and payroll legislation.
  • Understanding RTI and auto-enrolment processes.
  • Strong Excel and MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Act as first point of contact for payroll queries and provide support to employees and managers.
  • Process monthly payroll including starters, leavers, changes, overtime and statutory payments.
  • Maintain payroll records in HR systems with confidentiality.
  • Administer pension auto-enrolment and support pension-related enquiries.
  • Produce payroll reports and support month-end and year-end activities.

About the Role
Payroll executive - Part-time (3days a week)

We are looking for a detail-oriented and customer-focused Payroll Executive to join a busy HR and Payroll team. Reporting to the Payroll & Pension Supervisor, you will play a key role in delivering an accurate, efficient, and compliant payroll service while providing first-line support to employees and managers on payroll and pension-related matters.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries, providing timely and professional support to employees and managers.
  • Assist in the accurate processing of monthly payroll, including:
    • New starters and leavers
    • Contract and salary changes
    • Overtime and additional payments
    • Expenses and allowances
    • Absence-related payments
    • Statutory deductions and pension contributions
  • Maintain accurate payroll and employee records using HR and payroll systems, ensuring confidentiality and data security.
  • Process payroll documentation including P45s, starter declarations, student loans, maternity paperwork and year-end returns.
  • Administer pension auto-enrolment and support employees with pension-related enquiries.
  • Manage salary sacrifice schemes, including pension, holiday trading and cycle-to-work arrangements.
  • Apply payroll legislation and statutory payments, including PAYE, National Insurance, Statutory Sick Pay, Maternity Pay, Paternity Pay and other statutory entitlements.
  • Support the administration of sickness, maternity, paternity and adoption processes.
  • Assist with payroll overpayment recovery processes.
  • Produce payroll reports and support the preparation of management information.
  • Support month-end and tax year-end payroll activities.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll and HR processes and systems.
  • Work collaboratively across the wider HR team to deliver an excellent employee experience.
About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working within a payroll environment.
  • Experience administering payroll in line with HMRC regulations.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation, statutory payments, PAYE and National Insurance requirements.
  • Understanding of pension auto-enrolment and Real Time Information (RTI) processes.
  • Experience using payroll and HR information systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
Qualifications
  • GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent experience.
  • A payroll, finance, or related professional qualification is desirable.
