Job summary

Astute Recruitment are recruiting for a Payroll & Accounts Payable Assistant to join a well-established business based in the NG16 area. This varied role covers both payroll and wider finance, so you will need hands-on payroll experience alongside accounts payable experience.

You will be responsible for processing monthly payroll, resolving payroll queries, handling supplier invoices and payments, supplier statement reconciliations, and month-end support within the wider finance team.

Qualifications

• Previous hands-on payroll experience.
• Experience across accounts payable and wider finance.
• Good understanding of payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Good Excel skills.
• Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage deadlines.
• Good communication skills and confidence dealing with internal and external queries.
• A proactive, hands‑on approach.
• The ability to work independently while also being part of a wider finance team.

Responsibilities

• Processing monthly payroll accurately and on time.
• Managing payroll queries and resolving discrepancies.
• Calculating statutory payments, deductions and adjustments.
• Processing P11 Ds and benefits where required.
• Processing purchase invoices and credit notes.
• Matching, coding and authorising invoices.
• Supplier statement reconciliations.
• Preparing and processing supplier payments.
• Dealing with supplier queries.
• Assisting with month-end processes.
• General finance administration and supporting the wider finance team.
