Job description

Payroll Administrator (Part-time)
Salary: £30,000 (pro rata)
Hours: 2 days per week
Location: Guildford

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator to join their collaborative team on a part-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for an organised payroll professional looking for flexibility and ownership of a standalone payroll function within a supportive professional services environment.

Working approximately 30 hours per month across 2 days per week, the successful candidate will manage the preparation and administration of a monthly payroll for around 210 employees, working closely with an outsourced payroll provider.

The role:

Reporting into the HR function, you will be the primary point of contact for all payroll matters, ensuring payroll information is processed accurately and submitted to the external payroll provider within agreed deadlines.
This position requires someone who can work independently and has experience of the end-to-end payroll process, particularly in an environment where payroll is outsourced to a third-party provider.

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing payroll records and maintaining employee data within the payroll system.
  • Processing starters, leavers, promotions, salary changes and contractual amendments.
  • Administering maternity pay, sickness pay and holiday calculations.
  • Managing monthly payroll preparation and submission to the outsourced payroll provider.
  • Validating payroll data and carrying out payroll checks prior to payroll commit.
  • Processing bonuses, overtime, staff loans and salary sacrifice arrangements.
  • Liaising with the payroll provider regarding payroll queries and corrections.
  • Responding to employee payroll queries.
  • Monitoring HMRC notifications, tax code changes and statutory deductions.
  • Producing payroll reports and supporting HR with payroll-related data.
  • Supporting annual pay review and bonus processes.
  • Administering pension scheme processes, including monthly assessments and submissions.
  • Supporting wider HR and payroll-related projects as required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous payroll experience, including exposure to the full payroll cycle.
  • Experience working with an outsourced or managed payroll provider.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage payroll deadlines effectively.
  • Good working knowledge of statutory payments and payroll legislation.
  • Experience handling employee payroll queries professionally and confidentially.
  • Strong Excel and administrative skills.

A formal payroll qualification is not essential. Our client is primarily seeking someone with practical payroll experience and a proactive approach.
