Job summary

Alexander Daniels are partnering with a well-established organisation to recruit an experienced Payroll Administrator. You will process end-to-end payrolls, ensure HMRC RTI compliance, and maintain accurate employee data in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires strong UK payroll knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple payrolls across varying frequencies. A CIPP qualification is desirable, with opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

  • Experience processing payroll end-to-end in a bureau, practice or in-house.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, statutory payments and HMRC compliance.
  • Experience with payroll systems; Sage Payroll knowledge advantageous.
  • Excellent numeracy and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple payrolls and deadlines.
  • Confident communicator with staff, clients and external bodies.
  • Organised, proactive and able to work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and GDPR aware.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end processing of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls.
  • Managing onboarding, amendments and leaver processing.
  • Maintaining accurate payroll records and up-to-date employee data.
  • Calculating salaries, overtime, bonuses, expenses and adjustments.
  • Administering statutory payments and deductions as per legislation.
  • Submitting payroll information to HMRC including RTI reporting.
  • Managing PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions and auto-enrolment.
  • Investigating payroll queries and providing a professional service.
  • Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and external bodies as needed.
  • Ensuring GDPR compliance and internal controls.
  • Supporting process improvements and regulatory updates.

Job description

Alexander Daniels are currently partnering with a well-established and growing organisation to recruit an experienced Payroll Administrator. This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple payrolls, and delivering a high level of accuracy and service.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring payrolls are processed accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • End-to-end processing of weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls across a varied employee base
  • Managing employee lifecycle administration, including onboarding, payroll amendments, and leaver processing
  • Maintaining accurate payroll records and ensuring employee data is up to date at all times
  • Calculating and processing salaries, overtime, commissions, bonuses, expenses, and other payroll adjustments
  • Administering statutory payments and deductions in line with current legislation
  • Preparing and submitting payroll information to HMRC, including RTI reporting requirements
  • Managing PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions, and auto-enrolment obligations
  • Investigating and resolving payroll queries promptly, providing a professional service to employees and clients
  • Liaising with HMRC, pension providers, and other external bodies where necessary
  • Ensuring full compliance with payroll legislation, GDPR regulations, and internal controls
  • Supporting process improvements and keeping abreast of legislative and regulatory updates affecting payroll
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience processing payroll from start to finish within a payroll bureau, accountancy practice, or in-house payroll environment
  • Sound understanding of UK payroll legislation, statutory payments, PAYE, and HMRC compliance requirements
  • Experience working with payroll systems, with Sage Payroll knowledge advantageous
  • Strong numerical skills with excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple payrolls and prioritise workloads effectively within strict deadlines
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build positive relationships with employees, clients, and external stakeholders
  • Highly organised, proactive, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate payroll discrepancies efficiently
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and other payroll-related software
Desirable
  • CIPP qualification or equivalent payroll certification
  • Experience managing multiple client payrolls
  • Knowledge of workplace pensions and auto-enrolment processes
  • Experience handling high-volume payrolls across multiple pay frequencies
