A well-established and growing company here in the heart of Middlesbrough are looking to appoint a permanent Payroll and Accounts Officer to join their friendly team.This role is responsible for processing monthly payroll and supporting day-to-day finance activities, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while contributing to the smooth running of the company's financial operations.Open to candidates looking at both part-time and full-time, with a salary of £30K - £33K FTE.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
- Process and administer monthly payroll for approximately 200 employees.
- Input and maintain payroll data including new starters, leavers, salary changes and deductions.
- Calculate statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and other payroll-related adjustments.
- Process pension auto-enrolment and pension contribution submissions.
- Submit RTI returns and maintain compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Administer student loan deductions, attachment of earnings orders and other statutory deductions.
- Produce payroll reports, reconciliations and period-end documentation.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Act as the first point of contact for payroll and pay-related employee queries.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of employee information.
Accounts & Finance
- Assist with sales and purchase ledger activities.
- Raise invoices and ensure accurate processing of customer and supplier transactions.
- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Support credit control activities and assist with resolving account queries.
- Process supplier payments and maintain financial records.
- Assist with VAT returns and other financial submissions as required.
- Support month-end procedures, reporting and financial reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate filing systems and financial documentation.
- Assist the Finance Manager with ad hoc finance and administrative duties.
Person Specification
- Previous UK payroll experience with a sound understanding of HMRC legislation and payroll processes.
- Proficient in Sage payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong numerical, organisational and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage confidential information professionally.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to resolve payroll queries and meet deadlines.
